Match Report – HFLFC v Goring CC

9th October 2016: Hills Farm Lane FC 8 Goring CC 0 (HT: 4-0)

On a sunny autumnal morning, the birthday of founder Trev Evershed, Hills Farm Lane, (fondly known as Trevs Vets), took advantage of a seriously depleted Goring CC side and broke some club records on the way.

Former manager Trev himself was awarded his first ever league start and responded with his first ever league goal, scored in style with a measured header from a great cross from Paul Rymarz. The birthday boy celebrated wildly, running the length of the pitch before curving to the dug out to high five the bench, before realizing he cant actually run very far and spending the next 10 minutes trying to regain his breath!

"Reemo" himself then scored a fine individual goal, put through one on one with the Goring keeper, but hotly contested by the away side who failed to see their own right back clearly playing Reemo onside. A third goal, another one for Reemo swiftly followed after good work from Evershed and Stuart Rogers, having a fine game at number 10. Darron "Big D" Mitchell added the 4th just before half time enjoying a free, and very vocal, role at centre mid. Sadly for the visitors they were further hampered by the loss of another player at half time, their lively right mid leaving this highly significant match with the flimsy excuse of the imminent arrival of his first child. (Congratulations fella!)

The second half was one way traffic as Hills Farm had acres of space against the 10, mostly exhausted, brave men of Goring, and a brace from substitute Kev (the koppite) Boyle, took the score beyond fightback. Another fine goal, a volley on the turn, by Liam (another bloody koppite) Kelly made it seven but the best goal of the game marked a first for the club in any competition from long standing solid right back, Richard "Nav" Law, who battered his way into the box and with sheer determination slammed the ball past the keeper to round off the day.

Hopefully the return game will see Goring CC at full strength and a younger ref...
