Match Report – Steyning FC v HFLFC

Steyning FC v HFL.  Friendly League Team . 11 June 2019.  Kick off – 7:30pm, Location – Steyning

Result Steyning FC 4:4 HFL

So with a new season approaching it’s time to get fit and start these friendlies. First up was an away game against Steyning FC who beat us in the cup 2 – 0 last November. I’m sure they thought it’ll be easy but with a few new faces in our squad I knew that it was a different matter.

Both teams started brightly but it was Steyning who got off the mark in 8 mins, but 3 minutes later we equalised with a superb goal in the top right corner from our Polish friend Tomek back from injury.

1 all game on.

It seems the pattern emerging was a goal to be scored every 3 minutes as the hosts went back ahead on 14 minutes and then started drifting away with scoring again on 17 mins.

We grew stronger after that and produced some good football but the whistle went for half time.

3 – 1 Half Time.

I had my say at half time and we were straight out the blocks with new boy Andy Lampard scoring a fabulously well worked team goal to make it

3 – 2.

We looked like a well oiled machine as the challenges were coming in thick and fast and they didn’t look like they were going to score again when out pops our Polish friend Tomek to equalise with another fine team display, 3 – 3 with 37 minutes to go. 2 minutes later we were ahead with yet another fine goal from newbie Andy to take the lead on 55 minutes.

3-4 with 35 mins to go

We looked so composed on the ball and confident that the team felt great.

On the 63rd minute they then equalised after a bit of bad marking but we didn’t let that worry us as we came close on a few occasions too.

4 -4 which is a fantastic team performance after coming back from 3 – 1 down.

I’d like to say a big thanks to Craig Brewster in the middle of the park, he made a big difference and created plenty of opportunities for us. Ryan, Liam and Goose for playing out of position but sticking to their roles and playing great. And to all of the squad as we played our first friendly of 2019/20 season. A great match to be a part of and a great squad of fantastic individuals who come together to make it one.

Onwards and upwards!
